How we've helped Grants 4 Home Improvements

Skills Hub case study

Business overview

Grants4homeimprovements.co.uk is on a mission to help every household in the UK apply for funding for energy efficiency improvements.

The specialist eco-funding coordinator has been created to work as an intermediary between households and specialist eco-installers; promoting retrofit that reduces the carbon footprint and running costs of homes across the UK.

I’d heard that you could get so called ‘free’ loft insulation, I didn’t believe it but thought I would have a look-see and try to claim…. it was a real headache to get anything sorted. I wondered why it was so hard, as the world needs to adapt for climate change and I realised I could really help make a change here.

How we helped

There is no escaping the green agenda and rightly so; a healthy Planet is pretty important because its where we all live. Heating or cooling our homes is one of the top 5 contributors to climate change but many of us are afraid to even take the first step due to the high cost of improvements - enter Grants4homeimprovements.co.uk.

A Cornish company with headquarters at The Health and Wellbeing Centre at Treliske, Truro the organisation offers free, friendly no-nonsense information, support and guidance on making your home more energy efficient. The firm promotes funded home improvements, provides information, signposting, applications and ongoing welfare and support to homeowners, renters, landlords and letting agents making the process simple easy.

Using its experience of TrustMark accredited retrofit contractors Grants4homeimprovements.co.uk mediates between householders and installers to retrofit their properties to reduce their carbon footprint. The business concept was developed by the Founder, Charles May, after his dreadfully difficult experience applying for similar funding to insulate the loft at his family’s rural property on Exmoor, North Devon.

“I’d heard that you could get so called ‘free’ loft insulation, I didn’t believe it but thought I would have a look-see and try to claim…. it was a real headache to get anything sorted. I wondered why it was so hard, as the world needs to adapt for climate change and I realised I could really help make a change here,” he said.

Fast forward a few years and Grants4homeimprovements.co.uk was born with the objective to help every house in the UK to get the funding they are entitled to in a simple, no nonsense way and with a mission to encourage every household to Be a Superhero™ get energy efficient and help save the Planet.

“In the UK our homes are poorly insulated and poorly heated, and mostly using expensive fossil fuels, something we’ve known for 30 years or more. Over the last few years, the exposure on the impacts and the challenges around climate change have certainly been front of mind for many, but it’s only more recently that retrofitting has been on the agenda for both landlords and property owners,” Charles said.

Grants4homeimprovements.co.uk works hard to find all applicants a fully-funded retrofit solution, and where clients want a little more they also offer signposting to trusted contractors and assessors who are able to consult on all areas from replacing windows to full refurbishment projects or new builds.

On coming to the Skills Hub for support around expanding the skill set of their team, Grants4homeimprovements.co.uk has recently been accepted onto the Government’s Kickstart Scheme, which provides funding to employers to create jobs for 16 to 24 year olds on Universal Credit.

Kate Mitchell, Consumer Welfare Manager for the firm said:

“We’ve taken on additional members in our team, and we are rapidly outgrowing our offices at the Health and Wellbeing Centre in Treliske; things are certainly moving at pace. We are currently cementing our reach services here in Cornwall over the next 12 months. From there the plan is to solidify our name as the ‘go-to’ brand for grant funded retrofit nationwide."

From their Treliske HQ Grants4homeimprovements.co.uk has expansion at the top of its agenda and benefits from a strong, experienced management team. This innovative Cornish firm is already growing across the south west up the M5 corridor and beyond, and with huge demand for its specialist services, nationwide reach and capability may come quicker than expected.
