Rob is a kayak and paddle board instructor, with over 18 years’ experience in the outdoor sports industry.
Whilst working for other companies, Rob saw a gap in the market to run lessons for smaller groups, as well as one-to-one. In 2016, Rob started his own business Rob Mc Paddling to cater for this market.
The sessions he runs are tailored for each customer as private bookings. whether it is for those who are first time on a paddle board or those more experience paddlers who want to explore the stunning coastline.
When you think about what direction you want to take the business in, you need someone to talk to about your ideas. Having someone with that knowledge, that’s not trying to sell you a product – makes a massive difference.
How we helped
Rob met with Connector Mark in 2018 and again in 2020. Rob was signposted to support with developing a marketing plan and strategy to attract more customers.
Rob was also sent details of how he can increase his online awareness and online markets, especially social media, and networking opportunities with local business organisations.
During the pandemic Rob was concerned with the immediate impact of the hold on the leisure industry. He wanted to make sure he secured a long-term future for the business and they discussed the best business models for him.
The Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Growth Hub from May 2016 - June 2023 was part funded by the European Regional Development Fund and match funded by Cornwall Council, the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy and the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Local Enterprise Partnership. The project received £2,848,591.49 of funding from the England European Regional Development Fund as part of the European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme 2014-2020.
The Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Skills Hub from October 2017 - June 2023 was part funded by the European Social Fund and match funded by Cornwall Council and the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Local Enterprise Partnership. The project received £2,885,993 of funding from the European Social Fund as part of the 2014-2020 European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme in England.
