Cornwall Innovation Club: What the future looks like?

The Cornwall Innovation Club, ran in partnership with Cornwall Chamber of Commerce, facilitates bi-monthly networking breakfasts which feature inspirational speakers with expertise from all areas of innovation.

Our club mornings inspire ideas, transfer knowledge between industry sectors and create the opportunity to mix with other influential business leaders – encouraging valuable partnership and collaboration between businesses in Cornwall & the Isles of Scilly.

It’s for this reason that our sixth club event focusses on what the future looks like and we’re delighted to be joined by two businesses leading the way towards a cleaner planet:

Cleaner Seas

Their goal is simple. To remove microplastics from our planet. However, whilst researchers at the University of Plymouth have found up to 700,000 plastic microfibers are released into the waterways after each clothes wash, innovative solutions are needed to prevent further pollution. Cleaner seas have invented one such a solution. Their first product in development is a microfiber filter that can be retro-fitted to your washing machine and removes all the microfibres released from your clothes in a closed loop system.

Cornish Lithium

Mining a new metal from an old mining area, Cornish Lithium are a highly innovative mineral exploration and development company, focused on the environmentally sustainable extraction of lithium from geothermal brines of Cornwall.

Using modern digital computer technology has enabled the company to combine large historical datasets with satellite and other geophysical data, to allow the reinterpretation of mineral potential in light of modern extraction technologies. The demand for Lithium is rapidly rising due to the move towards electrification and away from a dependency on carbon. As the lightest weight metal in the periodic table with a high charge density, Lithium is perfect for creating lightweight batteries for modern technology and electric cars. A fertile area of innovation that could help to forge an environmentally friendly future.

As a complimentary networking breakfast will be provided, to help us with our catering requirements and to reduce any food waste, we ask that attendees book early and let us know if you can no longer make the event.

This event is held in partnership with Cornwall Chamber of Commerce and organised by Acceleration Through Innovation, a University of Plymouth led project, funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and in Partnership with Cornwall Innovation. The £3 million project aims to support business innovation across Cornwall and Isles of Scilly by helping businesses who are looking to adopt new processes or create new products and services.
