With a career history spanning some 30 years, I have worked at a senior level across numerous sectors including manufacturing and within public / private sector contracts delivering Government employability and individual support programmes.

Just two of the many roles I have held include Production Manager within the Advanced Materials Solutions Group of companies for US based Kennametal; making tiny drill bits for Printed Circuit Boards – many of which are probably still embedded in my hands, and Performance Manager for Working Links; delivering hugely successful programmes to help some of the most disadvantaged members of our local community back into work.

I’m particularly proud of the effort and passion my Cornwall team demonstrated during my time at Working Links as their Performance Manager where, out of approximately 120 offices across England, Scotland and Wales, they consistently held 4 out of the top 5 performing offices across the whole of the UK. My advice to any Leader or Manager – learn to trust your team and empower them to deliver results.

My perfect day involves: Waking early to be greeted by the sight of a tropical bay and the sound of the sea. A terrace breakfast with my loved ones followed by a swim in the ocean including a respectful dive around a local reef taking in all its’ natural beauty. An unhurried lunch with my soon to be wife would follow before investigating the local culture and cuisine of wherever I may be during the late afternoon and evening, with of course, the obligatory glass of wine and some music.

Business hero: Richard Branson. Never gives up on his dreams despite setbacks.

Career highlight: Working directly with the Cabinet Office to secure an extension to the Peninsula City Deal

Local businesses that I salute: All of them.

I’m always best remembered for my: Dedication, loyalty and passion to help others.

My skills gap confession: As a keen amateur cook, I have yet to master the perfect crimp on a Cornish pasty.
