I have worked in the Council of the Isles of Scilly’s Adult Learning team for 18 years now and have seen the service evolve from just a few recreational courses in the beginning to what it is today.  We still do offer recreational courses but also basic skills, family learning, IT Skills, workforce development, vocational training, IAG and careers advice plus much more.

Business idea that I’m secretly plotting: With my other hat on I help my husband run our bike hire business.  We were lucky enough to receive European funding to expand and diversify the business and have introduced an online booking system and some electric bikes to our fleet.  We are just coming to the end of our first season and are starting to look towards next season where we will be introducing guided bike tours as well.

My perfect day involves: I’d wake up in the Cape Winelands in South Africa and have breakfast in the sunshine overlooking the mountains.  We’d then go out in our little boat for a nice lunch somewhere on Scilly followed by a picnic on the beach watching the sunset over Samson.

Local businesses that I salute: You have to be quite innovative on the Isles of Scilly when it comes to making a living. Most people have more than one job and there are many, many people running small businesses alongside their day job.
