Apprenticeship Games are open, let battle commence

By CCB Training - 04th November 2019

The nationally ground-breaking Apprenticeship Games for apprentices and their employers are back, with more challenges and increased team spaces for 2020.

The Games pitch companies against each other in a bid to find the region’s ‘Apprentice Team of the Year’, who will be handed the impressive handcrafted Apprenticeship Torch.

Taking place at Cornwall College, Camborne during National Apprenticeship Week 2020 on the 5th February, teams from the South West’s leading employers will compete in a series of exciting, interactive challenges. Registration to enter teams opens on the 4thNovember and closes on the 29th November.

The 2019 games saw Cornwall Council crowned ‘Apprentice Team of the Year’, beating off stiff competition from Pall Corporation, MARS Wrigley, BD, Whyfield, Wales and West Utilities, Pendennis, Ocean Housing Group, West Pharmaceutical Services, W H Bonds and sons and Corserv Ltd.

Head of employer engagement at CCB Training Gareth Kenward said, the previous games were “a great success”.
“Apprentices really battled it out to win whilst demonstrated great team work and communications skills,” he continued.

Apprenticeships are a great way for people of all ages to earn while they learn, with opportunities to progress to a degree-level qualification. “At CCB we see so many apprentices develop into outstanding employees, and this event is a great way for employers and apprentices to showcase the skills they’ve developed along their journey,” Gareth added.

The day includes a networking lunch to give businesses and sponsors the opportunity to engage and share their stories.

As well as the gold, silver and bronze awards up for grabs, the challenges are designed to put the team’s leadership, teamwork and communication skills to the test, with judges awarding those who have best demonstrated these skills on the day.

Apprentices of all ages are encouraged to apply, including current apprentices, line managers of apprentices and those who have completed an apprenticeship within the last five years, from any training provider. Teams will be made up of four members, and businesses can only enter one team.
