Careers Hub CIOS Launches New Website

By Careers Hub CIoS - 16th May 2019

Careers Hub Cornwall & Isles of Scilly has recently launched their new website, which will help join the dots between business and education.

The website, which has been a significant investment for the company, has been created to offer schools and businesses a ‘go to’ resource to develop careers provision across the county.

As well as providing more information about the Gatsby Benchmarks, which are a framework for good career guidance in schools and colleges, there are a number of case studies of good practice. Businesses are also able to pledge their own support to engage with schools at an operational or strategic level, for example taking part in activities such as mock interviews, school talks or speed networking.

Carrie Holmes, Careers Hub Lead said:

“We have found that whenever we have met with businesses across the county many of them want to get involved with supporting schools and helping develop the next generation in the county. Our role is to link secondary schools and colleges in Cornwall and Isles of Scilly to these local employers and help them deliver high quality careers support for students. This website has been created to not only offer employers the opportunity to get involved, but to offer guidance to the Career Leaders and staff in schools to help them develop their policies and offering to their students.”

Schools and colleges in Cornwall and Isles of Scilly are benefiting from improvements to careers education, according to national data.

Cornwall and Isles of Scilly leads the country on Work Experience, with two thirds (67%) of schools and colleges ensuring every student has a direct experience of the workplace, and scores towards the top of the national average in four of the eight Gatsby Benchmarks. Sarah Hathaway, COO of the Institute of Student Employers and an Enterprise Adviser linked to Penrice Academy said: “The new website will be an important resource for the network of Enterprise Advisers across Cornwall, providing us with all the information we need to support schools and colleges in developing their careers provision. Enterprise Advisers and their businesses are already having a significant impact, and having a reliable source of best practice will help us do even more.”

If you are a business looking to get involved with supporting schools or students with their career related activity you can find out more by visiting www.careershubcios.co.uk.
