Cornish boutique bed and breakfast crowned best in South West
A luxury countryside bed and breakfast in Cornwall has been named as the best in the South West by an awards programme celebrating quality hospitality and retail businesses in the region.
Cusgarne Manor, near Truro, has been crowned the winner in the Best South West Bed and Breakfast category at this year’s Taste of the West Hospitality and Retail Awards. Entrants go through a rigorous judging process, including an unexpected visit from one of the judges, who focuses on where products or ingredients come from, the quality of food and drink, how well local sourcing is communicated to customers and the quality of service, as well as assessing atmosphere, ambience and value for money.
The only finalist in the category from Cornwall, as well as the overall winner; Cusgarne Manor is a ‘hidden gem’ located in beautiful countryside just 6 miles from Truro.
The Manor is a stunning Grade II* listed farmhouse which has been lovingly and sympathetically restored by owner Fiona Sherriff, now offering guests a rural retreat with a choice of three individually styled rooms. It overlooks a wooded valley, and gives guests exclusive access to a 13-acre nature reserve as well as a tranquil, but central, base to explore Cornwall.
Owner Fiona Sherriff is delighted. She said: “We never expected to win; we just thought we’d go along to the awards ceremony for the lovely Taste of the West lunch! I’m blown away really, as we’ve only been open for a year and were up against some really amazing established businesses. A lot of thought has gone into what we offer and all the little details we care about, so it’s lovely that those things were appreciated by the judges.”
The Taste of the West Awards programme has grown to be the most prestigious food and drinks awards programme in the South West, and has been supporting the sector for 30 years.
