DP Engineering Ltd – how digital technology boosts productivity

Superfast Business Cornwall supports D P Engineering to adopt a digital management portal to support the growth of their business

DP Engineering is a precision engineering firm, established in 1952, providing quality machined parts for the Aerospace, Defence, Marine, Oil, Gas and Medical sectors. It has always been a fundamental philosophy of the company to offer a tailored, state-of-the-art engineering service, where precision and quality is paramount.

The company were keen to adopt new digital tools, as they were using many different and independent IT systems.

Managing Director Richard Trevail approached Superfast Business Cornwall to help find and implement an effective solution.  Steve Edwards, Digital Business Enabler, worked with the business to analyse their requirements and discussed possible solutions to bring together their business needs into one system.   Funding to support this development was provided by Superfast Business Cornwall.

The project included building a Data Hub, to create an integration platform to allow complex data analysis.  This expanded the existing Shop Floor Data Capture (SFDC) system, the production control system and monitoring system into one hub.

Richard explains:

“With this new management portal we receive real time management information which joins our manufacturing inputs and outputs with the business data from our system.  This is fundamental in allowing the business to understand its operational effectiveness and future profit stream selection. This new management portal also frees up resources with improved efficiencies and accuracy of management data leading to more informed management decisions.  This will ultimately improve services to our clients and prospective clients.”

Steve comments:

“This new management hub, digital dashboard and clear digital strategy will free up valuable time for DP Engineering to focus on their existing and new client work whilst providing intelligent information to manage capacity whilst identifying more profitable work.  It is a pleasure working with Richard and Martin on this project and DP Engineering are a great example of a high-quality Cornish manufacturing business.”

Besides the new management hub, the business also developed their web and social media presence.  Superfast Business Cornwall funded a specialist who supported them with utilising digital formats such as video to provide a more engaging website.

Richard adds:

“It was a great experience working with Steve and the website expert on our project. We also learnt a lot about digital marketing and technology in the workshops and masterclasses and I would highly recommend the service. We have already created 2 jobs as a result of working with Superfast Business Cornwall, and we expect to hire another engineer as a result of this project.”
