Drive EV2 - new electric vehicle charge points

By Cornwall Council - 02nd August 2022

The Drive EV2 Project is bringing new public access electric vehicle charge points to Cornwall.

The project is funded by the European Regional Development Fund and Cornwall Council. This will fund 150 EV charge points. These include a small number of rapid/ ultra-rapid charge points at locations currently without adequate rapid-charging capacity.

The UK Government has banned the sale of new petrol and diesel cars from 2030. The Drive EV2 Project will support this switch to electric vehicles. With transport being our largest single source of emissions, this is an important part of our efforts to work together to tackle climate change and improve air quality.

The funded charge points will be located in Council owned car parks. The project team will work with experts to review sites and agree final locations. This will be based on technical capacity, demand and accessibility. The aim will be to ensure good charging coverage throughout Cornwall.

A priority of the project is to make the charge points as accessible as possible. We want to make sure that everyone can use them.

SWARCO has been contracted to install, operate and maintain the project funded charge points. The work will begin later this year with a deadline of completion by March 2023.

Users will pay to use the charge points. The cost of charging will be set by the supplier and will cover the operation and maintenance throughout the contract.
