New podcast launch for Outset Cornwall

By Outset Cornwall - 19th March 2021

Outset Cornwall has launched its first podcast this week (15th March), featuring past and present clients, plus members of the Outset team, addressing a range of specific, topical subjects and issues commonly faced by start-ups and new businesses.

Published on a monthly basis, each thirty minute episode will see an Outset client or team member focusing on a particular topic relevant to new business owners or individuals just starting their business journey, including creating content for social media, taking on first employees and starting a business after redundancy.

Kate Perkin, Programme Director for Outset Cornwall, said: “We’ve helped some fantastic businesses get started over the last eleven years, so involving them in our new podcast seemed a perfect opportunity to not only showcase the businesses, but also the inspirational people behind them; highlighting their knowledge and expertise, plus the successes and challenges they’ve faced along the way.”

The inaugural episode, entitled “The First Ten Years in Business”, features Tony Sampson, founder of Naked Solar and one of Outset’s early success stories, talking about his business journey since joining the Outset programme back in 2009.

Tony said: “When Outset approached me about being a guest on their podcast, I was more than happy to help. Outset did so much to help me get going, so it’s lovely to have the opportunity to give something back.”

Donna Morcom, founder of Sekoya Specialist Employment Services who enrolled on the Outset programme in 2013, will be sharing her expertise in the upcoming episode “Next Steps: how to expand and take on your first employee.”

Donna commented: “The whole project sounded very exciting, and I was honoured to be asked to be part of it. Outset were fundamental in helping me get started; their support was invaluable, so I was delighted at the chance to not only help Outset, but potentially other business owners as well.”

Hosted on the Outset Cornwall website, each episode also includes a complete transcript, making it more accessible to a wider audience.

Kate added: “We‘re incredibly grateful for the support we’ve had so far; every client we’ve asked has been very happy to get involved, demonstrating the hugely supportive network and community that has grown with the programme.

“Our aim was to create something useful and inspirational for our clients, for individuals thinking of starting their own business and for newly-established business owners, that would continue Outset’s legacy and ongoing contribution to the Cornish business community. Thanks to everyone’s support and hard work, I’m proud to say I feel we’ve achieved exactly that.”

The first episode of the new Outset Podcast is available to listen to at www.outset.org/cornwall/news/outset-podcast, or search “Outset Podcast” in any major podcast directory, with the next episode due for release on 15th April.
