Newquay artist Naomi Jenkin wins prestigious wildlife art competition
Newquay artist Naomi Jenkin has taken the top spot in this year’s Sketch For Survival 2024 - a renowned wildlife art competition that attracted over 1,000 entries from around the world.
Naomi’s winning piece, a pastel drawing titled Embrace, depicts a young chimpanzee being tenderly held by its mother.
With remarkable attention to detail, Embrace captures a poignant moment of maternal protection, as the young chimp locks eyes with the viewer, inviting them into a powerful moment of connection with wildlife.
Judged by a distinguished panel of experts, including celebrated wildlife artists Gary Hodges and Sophie Green, Naomi’s artwork rose above more than a thousand entries, impressing with its emotional depth and technical skill.
Sketch For Survival is more than just a competition; it’s an initiative organised by Explorers Against Extinction, a UK charity which raises funds and awareness to combat wildlife extinction.
Each year, artists around the globe contribute works celebrating endangered species, with proceeds going toward conservation projects.
The competition not only brings attention to the beauty and vulnerability of wildlife but also directly supports efforts to protect these creatures in their natural habitats.
Naomi’s win not only highlights her as a top talent in wildlife art, but also serves to remind viewers of the shared responsibility to protect endangered species. As a professional animal artist dedicated to capturing the spirit of animals in her work, Naomi is thrilled to have Embrace receive this level of recognition.
