Newquay-based translation agency celebrates a decade of success

By AJT - 26th June 2020

AJT is extremely proud to announce it is officially ten years old this month. Way back in 2010, when Anja Jones started the company from her kitchen table, in Penryn, Cornwall, she never imagined that one day they would employ a team of 19 in-house staff and a trusted network of 150 freelance linguists, based all over the world. Nor did she think they'd be translating well over a million words per month for some of the world's best-known brands.

Over the last ten years Anja has built a team, now based in Newquay, of project managers, translators and management staff. Anja admits, “I feel incredibly fortunate and blessed to work with such a wonderful collective of colleagues and clients – like-minded people who share our passion for language, culture and communication. Ten years on, somehow it still feels like we are only just getting started, and we look forward to the next ten years.”

As well as being one of the best-known translation agencies in the South West, AJT has built a strong international reputation for nurturing linguistic talent. During the last ten years, the company has employed 14 translation graduates, hosted 22 translation interns and trained and mentored 30 more graduates as part of the award-winning Graduate Junior Translator Scheme.  Anja explains, “We have always been passionate about encouraging and nurturing the next generation of translators. It can sometimes be hard to get a good job, or become successful as a freelancer, without experience, and that can be a real barrier for graduates. So we do what we can to bridge that gap and it’s been a great success for us.”

AJT has now translated in excess of 50 million words, predominantly from English into Western European languages, and has so far supported more than 500 of the world’s most successful global brands.

Like many creative agencies, AJT has closed its office during the pandemic, however if you’d like to get in touch or find out more, you can visit www.teamajt.com
