Team building activities in Cornwall have been given a creative and imaginative twist thanks to the opening of Susie Ray Workshops near the bay of Porthcothan on the north Cornish coast.
Designed to bring teams together to learn something new and have fun, the brand new workshops are inspired by the coast of Cornwall and include, seascape art, painting tutorials and rustic crafts, as well as unique fish rubbing sessions based on the ancient Japanese art form of Gyotaku. The workshops are personally led by Susie Ray, a highly accomplished copyist artist who despite making a name for herself around the world, is most at home combing the shoreline near her bespoke studio and foraging for natural treasures to turn in handmade pieces of art.
Stepping out of the workplace to learn new skills and enjoy each other’s company is a great way to breathe new life into your team, awaken passions and inspire new ideas. The workshops are incredibly hands-on and are suitable for all abilities, from those that have never picked up a paint brush before to experienced artists. It is fantastic to see people come alive during the workshops. Many people join us with little creative confidence yet leave overflowing with pride for their work which can be taken home to be displayed or to give as a gift.
Shells, seaweed, feathers and other foraged finds play a starring role in the workshops with the chance to make nature inspired oil prints, driftwood hearts and an ever-widening array of crafts. The painting workshops meanwhile echo the freedom of Cornwall’s coastal landscape to provide a calm yet exhilarating experience.
Sovereign Accounting Solutions in Indian Queens was among the first companies to try the new team building activity.
Creativity isn’t something that accountants are known for but through a one day seascapes painting workshop Susie helped us to dispel this myth. We were blown away by the talents that she helped us tap into. The workshop encouraged us to step outside our bubble as a team to reconnect, reinvigorate and re-imagine our capabilities. With our very own masterpieces now displayed on the wall we’re constantly reminded of what we can achieve.
Completely bespoke, the workshops cater for teams of up to 16 people and can be tailored to group preferences. They are available in half-day to two-day durations and through partnerships with local chefs, can be fully catered. They can also be combined with an overnight stay in Lobster Pot or Strand Line, two cabins located just a stone’s throw from the studio door which have been lovingly designed by Susie and are available to hire through Beach Retreats.
