Camborne secures £750,000 of Accelerated Funding

Camborne has been awarded £750k of funding from the Government to kick start developing plans for improving the town.

The money will be spent on improving local businesses and securing a central site to build a vibrant, multi-purpose community hive.

Camborne Town Deal Board was formed this summer to identify and implement projects that will help build a prosperous future through innovative regeneration. As one of 100 towns throughout the UK to be selected for the Government’s Towns Fund Deal, Camborne now has the opportunity to bid for up to £25 million of funding.

BID Manager Anna Pascoe chairs the Camborne Town Deal Board, whose members are drawn from both the private and public sectors.

“We’re delighted that our bid for £750k from the Accelerated Funding pot has been successful,” she said. “We are allocating a substantial part of that to Project A-Void which is being led by BID Camborne and aims to transform vacant and run-down commercial properties into modern, thriving businesses. We believe enhancing the look of our streets will help restore a sense of place and pride and the feedback we got from our recent local survey provided a strong indication that’s what local residents want too.

“The remainder of the funding will be focused on developing our plans for turning a prime central space into somewhere people of all ages can live, work and socialise. We had nearly 1000 responses to our survey and it was clear that there is significant demand for more things to do in vibrant, social settings. We’re reflecting that need by looking into sustainable, flexible options that will have a ‘wow’ factor.”

“This is such an exciting step towards building a much brighter future for our community,” she said. “Covid-19 has hit everyone hard but this gives us good reason to hope for better times ahead. Camborne is famous for past innovation that really changed the world. Our ambition is to create an environment in which entrepreneurialism and creativity can once again thrive and this funding will help us achieve that.”

A Town Investment Plan is being prepared that will be submitted to Government in January.
