Cornish Start-ups Finnish in Style

Seven businesses from Cornwall visited Helsinki to attend Slush, the world’s leading startup event, alongside Cornwall Trade and Investment.

The event took place over November 21st – 22nd in Helsinki, Finland and attracted over 25,000 forward-thinking individuals and groups, including more than 3,500 startups and 2,000 investors. The event explored the latest in tech, sustainable impact, and entrepreneurship.

Slush was a prime opportunity for both new and established businesses from Cornwall to meet with investors, explore potential partnerships and engage with new clients. Seven of the region’s fast-growing tech businesses joined Cornwall Trade and Investment at the event: Data Duopoly, Codices, Comity, Headforwards, Hug, Bad Wolf Horizon, and Seefood Ltd.

“Slush has been a real eye-opener,” said Toby Parkins, Founding Director at Headforwards. “When you put lots of interesting, innovative people together, you have some amazing conversations.”

The team at Data Duopoly agrees: “It’s been great to be part of the Cornwall contingent at Slush. We’ve had lots of great meetings with potential investors and future partners, and expanded our network at the same time.”

For Cornwall Trade and Investment, it not only provided the opportunity to support Cornwall’s business community as they expand their networks overseas, but to also meet with companies looking to set up in the UK – bringing even more opportunities to the region – and further develop relationships with international partner organisations.

As Kelly Trelease, Head of Brand and Marketing at Cornwall Trade and Investment, explained: “Our previous overseas trade missions have seen major success, with Cornwall-based businesses securing significant investment. And Slush didn’t disappoint, either – our businesses attracted a lot of attention, and we’re excited to see what happens over the coming months.”

Taking these seven businesses along to the international event is part of Cornwall Trade and Investment’s ongoing mission of helping companies to grow and create new jobs and opportunities in the region.
