Cornwall’s first Skills Bootcamp

By Truro & Penwith College - 28th June 2021

Truro and Penwith College has announced Cornwall’s first Skills Bootcamp that will provide adults with sector specific skills and fast-track job interviews with local employers.

The College is launching its first Skills Bootcamp in Welding next month, with an Introduction and Assessment Event taking place on Friday 9th July.

The event will allow visitors to find out more about the programme, hear from an employer offering interviews, tour the College’s brand-new £7 million engineering and technology ‘Valency’ centre with its cutting-edge welding and augmented reality welding facilities and enrol onto the Skills Bootcamp.

The new trailblazing Skills Bootcamps are part of the Government’s £2.5 billion investment in the National Skills Fund to help adults gain skills to improve job prospects, support economic recovery from Covid-19 and supply future skills that employers need.

Employers can also take advantage of Skills Bootcamps for professional development, provided they intend to change their employees job description within six-months of the training.

Individuals who are unemployed or are seeking to change their career can access the programme for free while employers are required to pay a contribution of £540.

The College has developed the Skills Bootcamp in Welding in collaboration with local employers and is offering all learners the opportunity to be assessed for a welding code certification worth up to £1,200 in addition to the training. The BS4872 (GMAW Mild Steel) welding code certifies competence in welding for maintenance and will give learners a strong foundation to start their career.

Two Introduction and Assessment events will take place at the College on 9th July; an afternoon session for individuals and a morning session for employees who are being referred by their employer. Places are limited with more information available online along with the opportunity to register for the free event: www.truro-penwith.ac.uk/SkillsBootcampsinWelding.
