G7 legacy benefits celebrated by Corserv

By Corserv Group - 23rd June 2021

Just one week after the G7 Summit came to Cornwall, the Corserv Group is already celebrating the long-lasting legacy it will have on Cornwall’s economy.

The Corserv Group carried out multiple improvements across the Duchy in preparation to welcome world leaders, from infrastructure improvements at the Airport to accommodate planes the size of Air Force One, to showing off the great place we live and work to the world.

Improving a major transport link

With over £7millon awarded to enhance Cornwall Airport Newquay, the Cormac Surfacing and Contracting teams worked tirelessly, day and night, to lay 11,250 tonnes of aggregate in order to improve the runway and apron areas.

Cath Robinson, Corserv Group Managing Director, said: “I’m extremely proud of how the Corserv Group has prepared for the G7 Summit. It demonstrates the value of our diverse organisation and how we can quickly and efficiently mobilise all of our divisions to achieve outstanding results for Cornwall.

“By working collaboratively, the Corserv Group excels in managing such high-profile projects, and I’m honored that this one will leave a lasting legacy for Cornwall. We’re already in discussions at Newquay Airport for an opportunity that has the potential to bring over a hundred new engineering jobs to Cornwall and create apprenticeship opportunities which will inspire the young people of our Duchy.”

Cornwall Newquay Airport Managing Director, Pete Downes, commented:

“We are delighted that the investment from the Government has allowed us to carry out much needed improvements that will also unlock new opportunities in Cornwall.

“The new aprons and taxiways allow us to accommodate larger aircraft but also encourage more sustainable and innovative new businesses. These include trials of electric and hybrid aircraft and developing future zero-emission aircraft.

“We will also be creating new airside development zones with space for Cornish businesses, including new hangars and increased aircraft maintenance facilities.”

Showing the world the great place we live and work

In addition to the important improvements at Cornwall Airport Newquay, our teams from Cornwall Development Company hosted ‘Cornwall House’ - an exhibition of Cornwall’s key sectors in the green and digital revolution.

Developed in partnership with Falmouth University and Cornwall Council, ‘Cornwall House’ showcased Cornwall Development Company’s various programmes, such as Aerospace technology, mining and geothermal energy, agri-tech and trade and investment. It was the ideal event to highlight investment opportunities in sustainability, manufacturing, export and innovation.

Mike King, Cornwall Development Company Managing Director said: “It’s important that we position Cornwall as a leading region in the green and digital industrial revolution, both domestically and internationally. We want to evolve the region’s narrative from a ‘less developed area’ to ‘a region with a thriving and diverse economy’ that is investment-ready.”
