By Truro and Penwith College - 22nd November 2022

An opportunity has opened for Cornwall’s aspiring Hospitality Managers to apply and join an industry designed management course equipped with skills to help them and their teams through the future.

Truro and Penwith College is looking for applications from rising stars within the best establishments in Cornish Hospitality to recruit twelve of the best managers in Cornwall to join their Level 4 Hospitality Manager Higher Apprenticeship.

The course has been developed with the county’s top hospitality employers and includes content specifically designed to help support managers through the future of the sector, equipping them with the leadership skills to respond to difficult circumstances.

The Level 4 Apprenticeship aims to help individuals to become the best hospitality manager they can be, gain skills in key business topics, including leadership, management, finance, HR, and marketing, and accelerate their personal and professional development.

The apprenticeship is taught by staff with extensive experience within the industry, who will advance managers knowledge and skills to meet the modern expectations of the hospitality sector.

Veryan Palmer, Director at the Headland Hotel, said: “The opportunities that this gives us to help our young managers to gain the skills to progress forwards on their stellar career pathways is excellent."

The apprenticeship, designed and piloted with local businesses as part of the ESF part-funded Hospitality Table Cornwall, is part of the Business Clusters project. Learners will complete an embedded Higher National Certificate (HNC); combining the practical aspects of an apprenticeship with the academic industry-recognised qualification.

This 2 year course, with a three month end point assessment, includes 1.5 lessons each month – one day in college and a morning session online.

Cornwall’s top employers that have helped shape this course include The Headland Hotel, Paul Ainsworth Collection, St Michaels Hotel and Spa, Crowndell LTD, Inn Cornwall, Alverton and Greenbank hotels, Hotel Tresanton, Pollocks Pub Co (Longstore), Mullion Cove Hotel, Fowey Hall Hotel, The Cornwall Hotel and Spa, Hotel Meudon and Talland Bay Hotel.

Businesses keen to enrol an employee, or anyone who would like more information, can register interest by contacting the College’s Hospitality Business Partnership Consultant Mark Lewin at [email protected]

The opportunities that this gives us to help our young managers to gain the skills to progress forwards on their stellar career pathways is excellent.
