By Newquay Business Improvement District - 22nd February 2021

Newquay Business Improvement District (BID) has just announced a series of free upskilling sessions for its member businesses covering various topics from e-marketing to hypnotherapy. The interactive group sessions are open to all Newquay BID levy paying businesses and will take place digitally throughout March 2021 to support the transition from lockdown to reopening. The first in the three-part series, titled ‘20 Marketing Ideas for Independent Retailers in Newquay’ will run on Friday March 5th at 2pm, facilitated by established training consultant, Frances Riseley.

Frances Riseley has enjoyed an extensive career in retail and for the past 30 years has committed to helping retailers improve their sales and increase their profitability. She is known for her practical, yet inspirational, training that really transforms businesses.

The unique 1.5-hour long workshop which has been organised and funded by Newquay BID, is suitable for all BID member retailers, whether currently locked down or still trading.  It is also suitable for cafes, tea rooms, hairdressers, nail bars, tattoo and piercing shops. Makers such as jewelers, artists and food producers who trade online, even without a retail premises will benefit from this session.

The objective of this Newquay BID workshop is to give independent Newquay retailers practical techniques that they can utilise to broaden awareness of their business, increase traffic to their online platforms and generally improve sales and profitability. It will also offer businesses a chance to reflect, network with likeminded businesses and develop an action plan for future success.

Frances Riseley said, “Newquay’s business landscape is so broad and there are some very talented entrepreneurs and retailers out there, many of which will have unfortunately been negatively impacted by the pandemic. I so look forward to meeting some of these businesses and working with them on this project which I believe will provide a significant boost to their morale and sales. There will be at least 20 ideas and case studies that partakers will be able to adapt and copy for their own businesses, plus they will have a chance to meet and learn from other individuals in Newquay. I want to show retailers how no investment, apart from time, is required to implement great ideas and improve your marketing capabilities.”

Carla-Marie Jones, Newquay Business Improvement District (BID) Manager, said, “We all want to see our town bounce back over the coming months so we’re keen to do all we can to support this transition from lockdown to reopening. Therefore, we decided to create this virtual upskilling series and we are really pleased to have some great talent and expertise running the workshop sessions to provide the top quality advice and tips to our member businesses. We are sure those who participate will take a lot from them and will come away with some actions they can put into practice immediately.”

Carla continued, ‘’It is so important for us to ensure Newquay businesses have year-round access to as much knowledge and development opportunities, so they can continue to shine and lead the way long into the future. We are keen to hear from you about any future topics that you believe your business would benefit from over the coming months. Please do keep talking and let us know your ideas. We really want you to benefit from these and as always, we are here to help. Keep an eye on our social media channels to see the future sessions.”
