Newquay BID takes the lead on vital research work, giving participants the chance to win a host of Cornish prizes

By Newquay Business Improvement District - 26th October 2021

Newquay Business Improvement District (BID) is conducting a piece of research work on behalf of the town, the data from which will provide critical insights that will help build confidence and drive the direction of the Newquay brand and communications strategy. The simple online survey (which will also be available in physical form should this be requested) is live now and open to all via the above links. It will remain active until Tuesday 30th November 2021 when the data will then be consolidated into a report that will be accessible via the BID’s website.

Ten years ago, not long after its inception, Newquay BID carried out a similar survey, through which a key set of evidential stats and facts, as well as qualitative evidence of people's perception of Newquay and critical information on how they would like to see the town develop, were of use to a large number of Newquay BID member businesses as well as to local residents and visitors. The 2021 survey hopes to achieve the same level of quality responses.

Previously, Cornish towns and destinations were able to access specific statistics and information on local and visitor perceptions from the annual, comprehensive Visit Cornwall survey.  Unfortunately, this stopped happening a number of years ago, with data and research on Newquay now lacking.

As of now, there are two separate surveys to be completed; one for residents of Newquay and another for those who live outside of the town. To incentivise individuals to take part, Newquay BID has purchased a number of gifts from BID members that participants will win at random. These include a luxury stay at the Pentire Hotel, in the form of a £600 voucher and five runner-up prizes of delightful Cornish Hampers from family-run Newquay firm, The Cornwall Hamper Company. The deluxe hampers comprise a specially-chosen selection from a sumptuous range of wonderful Cornish food and drink products such as Polgoon Pinot Noir Sparkling Rose Brut, Rodda’s hand churned salted butter, Cornish clotted cream fudge and much more, all presented in a wicker hamper and worth £107.50.

Interim BID Manager, Kim Harris said, “Ten years in, we feel that Newquay BID has a key opportunity to drive new understanding, leadership and direction for the town as a leading destination. This is why we are carrying out this research. Although this will be a BID-owned piece of work, it will definitely have cross-organisation benefits. The valuable data that we collect from this work can be used for future funding bids, e-newsletters, future destination branding and marketing and for business plans. It will also allow us to develop a five-year focus and strategic communications plan based on the results generated to ensure we are hitting the key objectives for the town across all communications platforms. The survey is easy to access and should take no more than five minutes to complete. And what’s more, there are some amazing prizes to be won so, if you have a spare five minutes, grab a cuppa, get online and fill it out!”

General Manager of the Pentire Hotel, Amanda Pleasants said, “We were really pleased when Newquay BID contacted us offering us up as one of the prizes for the research survey. We hope the offer of a break with us will incentivise people to fill in their responses, we certainly anticipate that it will. We think the survey is a really worthwhile piece of work and we look forward to seeing the results from it and looking at how this can boost Newquay’s positioning as a leading visitor destination and attractive place to live and work.”

The Newquay BID surveys can be accessed through the following links before Tuesday 30th November 2021:

Survey link one: Residents of Newquay: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/RJZ95SR

Survey link two: People outside of Newquay/tourists and potential tourists: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/RJTHYX5

Both surveys contain a mixture of questions that will generate both qualitative and quantitative data which will allow the team to gauge sentiment and opinion of Newquay. It can then make strategic marketing recommendations for ongoing BID activity targeting Cornish and further-afield audiences and encouraging much more, year-round local footfall to the destination.

Should anyone wish to fill out a physical form due to access issues or disability, this can certainly be arranged by contacting the BID team on [email protected]. For further information on any of Newquay BID’s projects, please contact the team or visit the website at: https://www.newquaybid.co.uk/.

Ten years in, we feel that Newquay BID has a key opportunity to drive new understanding, leadership and direction for the town as a leading destination. This is why we are carrying out this research.
