Project A-Void grant helps attract G7 summit interest

A Project A-Void grant of £5000 has helped a local holiday let company attract G7 summit business to Camborne. 

SRU Ltd runs four properties in the town that offer en-suite accommodation to visitors. Now, thanks to recent renovations by Camborne-based building firm Specialist Business Developments Limited that include improving private parking facilities and installing four high-capacity electric vehicle (EV) chargers, all eleven available rooms have been booked for a ten-day period as part of the G7 event in June. 

To help with the renovation cost of more than £13,000, SRU Ltd applied to BID Camborne for a Project A-Void grant. 

“More and more people are driving electric cars and we felt it was important to provide guests with easily accessible charging points,” said Managing Director Harry Hart.

“We also wanted to use ‘’Heligan and Glendurgan” chippings for the parking areas as they are supplied by a local provider and offer a much more attractive option than tarmac.  The fact that their name refers back to attractions guests may visit when staying with us also made them seem more apt. 

“We’re over the moon to have been awarded the grant. It has definitely helped us win the G7 bookings and that’s really good news – not just for us but for the rest of Camborne as well. As a town that has excellent public transport links and is midway between both Cornish coasts, we’re perfectly placed to offer cost-effective holiday accommodation.  

“I’m delighted that Camborne Town Deal is bidding for £25m of government funding and look forward to seeing the improvements that kind of investment will make.” 

Project A-Void, run by Camborne BID as part of the Camborne Town Deal Accelerator Funding, offered local business owners an opportunity to bid for renovation and refurbishment of their commercial premises.

Phase one of the scheme has now ended but registration is open for a possible second phase once the Camborne Town Deal bid has been decided by Government. 

“We were delighted with the number of applications received and the difference grant funding has been making to commercial premises in Camborne,” said BID Camborne Manager Anna Pascoe, who is also Chair of Camborne Town Deal board.  

“To have secured G7 summit business on the back of renovations made in these holiday lets shows just what can be achieved. Camborne has long been known for its incredible heritage and sense of community. Now potential Town Deal funding provides real opportunity to make it a sought-after visitor destination too.”
