Taking off in a new location: Newquay Activity Centre unveils its new home

By Newquay Activity Centre - 10th December 2020

Newquay Activity Centre has officially opened its new doors to a new home, relocating to a prime position in one of the most desirable and upcoming areas of Newquay’s town centre, Fore Street.

The multi award winning activity centre is now based on the main shopping street of Newquay and close to Newquay’s Towan and Fistral beaches, a short walk from the harbour.

Neighbouring with a solid surf community of shops, Newquay Activity Centre will join a much-loved area and occupy a legendary building that has been part of the town’s history for 150 years.

On Friday 4th December, Newquay’s Town Councillor, Louis Gardner along with RAF Wing Commander’s Jolyon Goodwin and Marshall Kinnear cut the red ribbon at the new premises with Councillor Gardiner commenting ‘It’s absolutely fantastic to see a Newquay based business expanding in such uncertain times. Newquay Activity Centre is a real success story of the town, employing local people and supporting the local economy. I’m sure that with their new premises they will go from strength to strength”.

Newquay Activity Centre has a strong partnership with the military who undertake Adventure Training throughout the year with the skilled team of Newquay Activity Centre Instructors, Wing Commander Jolyon Goodwin commented “‘Newquay Activity Centre has provided the RAF’s Robson Resilience Centre, located at RAF St Mawgan with fantastic support in recent years offering programmes that will help develop leadership, interpersonal skills and Resilience. Its great to see the Centre going from strength to strength and we look forward to a continuing relationship.’

Most locals will remember that 60 Fore Street has previously been home to cottage tearooms, Shirley’s cottage café and more recently a beach goods and sunglasses shop. It has now been modernised to accommodate a team of staff as well as surfboards, adventure kit and educational training rooms. Newquay Activity Centre will continue to deliver its multiple activities for families, groups and individuals from their new premises, as well as the new Outdoor Instructor Training courses, which have just been launched. The building has been reconstructed internally to fit state of the art changing rooms, hot showers, bookings office, training room and customer booking areas.

Newquay Activity Centre Director Rob Barber commented  “We’ve been looking for permanent premises for Newquay Activity Centre for some years. It was a very busy summer and despite the challenges of the global pandemic, we managed to push this sale through in early autumn and immediately started with the internal build and outside branding. We are thrilled to be on the main street, Fore Street is iconic to the town for many visitors and locals, with its array of cool new shops, eateries and now a leading activity provider who is open all year round. We can’t wait to welcome guests and friends in over the festive period and beyond”

Rob continues, “We’ve worked closely with military groups for over 15 years and it has been very rewarding to build a strong relationship with RAF St Mawgan, so it was great to have Wing Commander’s Goodwin and Kinnear here to open the premises, we look forward to continuing to deliver Adventurous Training and forces development to groups through the winter months”.

As well as being home to Newquay Activity Centre, the premises will also provide office space for the companies sister businesses Bodyboard-Holidays and Women + Waves.
