Collaborative training in action

A group of businesses in Bude showcased the effectiveness of collaborative training when they pooled resources to get to grips with social media for business.

The idea was sparked by one of the Team conducting a number of skills reviews in the area she noticed that a handful of businesses had similarities in their skills gaps.

Our Connector helped the businesses to join the dots and supported them in successfully organising a workshop at a location, date and cost, that suited all of the businesses.

“It’s not uncommon for businesses to face barriers when it comes to undertaking training. It may be that the training provision that they have identified is too far away, scheduled at an inconvenient time or is simply too expensive. By working together businesses can commission bespoke training that is delivered in a way that is convenient to them,” explains Lisa.

“To support businesses, we have created a collaborative training guide which provides step-by-step instructions and advice. We also offer one-to-one support through a skills review and welcome businesses to tap into our knowledge of skills and training provision in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.”

Professional Law Services was one of the Bude-based businesses that benefited from the collaborative training opportunity to upskill in social media. Koren Pitcher from the company joined the workshop and comments: “On a skills review of our company Lisa helped us to identify areas where we have the potential to improve and where training would be beneficial to us.

Social media was one such skills need and being able to join other businesses in the area and do the training locally has been invaluable to us. “It has meant minimum time out of the office and equipped us with important skills, but more than that, it offered a great networking opportunity and a chance to get to know fellow Bude-based businesses.”
