How we've helped Just Jonah

Skills Hub case study

Business overview

Just Jonah sells organic children's clothing and accessories, and is based in Fowey.

We weren’t getting the traffic that we wanted, and what we were getting, we weren’t converting to orders. Our SEO and our digital marketing was inadequate, and we failed to capitalise on the trend toward online shopping during the lockdown.

How we helped

Frank Woods doesn’t hide the fact that the future remains uncertain for his, and many more businesses across Cornwall.

“It would be great to forecast and say that this is going to turn out fine, but I really don’t know. It is what it is,” he said.

While Woods, whose business Just Jonah sells organic children's clothing and accessories, had an established online retail presence to accompany his store in Fowey prior to the lockdown period, what he did have fell a long way short of what was required for a client base that forced to shift to the world of online shopping.

“We weren’t getting the traffic that we wanted, and what we were getting, we weren’t converting to orders. Our SEO and our digital marketing was inadequate, and we failed to capitalise on the trend toward online shopping during the lockdown,” Frank said.

With their Fowey store closed between March and July, the past few months have given Frank the chance to sit back and reassess where Just Jonah was at, both digitally and on the high street.

“Like everyone else we were losing money hand over fist, so this was when we reached out to the Skills Hub to see what help was out there. I’ve already done one course with Cornwall Marine Network, I’ve got another session on marketing this afternoon, and I just got off the phone with Unlocking Potential. It has been fantastic,” he said.

The change in business model is already starting to see results, with both an increase in online orders and improved footfall at their store.

“We are trying to make the most of it and capitalise on what we can, as we just don’t know what is around the corner. You’ve got to be hopelessly optimistic and just get on with it,” Frank said.

On working with the Growth and Skills Hub to improve productivity and ensure that Just Jonah is a force to be reckoned with across the digital world, Frank could not be more complimentary of his experience thus far.

“All from our very first discussion it has been massively helpful. Every day I am learning something new, doing something new, and accessing new knowledge,” he said.
