How we've helped Lantoom Quarry

Skills Hub case study

Business overview

Lantoom Quarry supply Cornish stone from their own quarries near Liskeard, with most of their products being Cornish slate and Cornish granite.

There was definitely a skills gap that needed to be filled in order for us to grow, so working with the Skills Hub has allowed us to see where we’re at and what we need to do in order to move forward.

How we helped

Lantoom Quarry are a business on the move. Having commenced trading in 1964 the company has been passed down through the Crocker family for multiple generations.

Currently employing 17 staff across their office and quarry operations, Lantoom believed that support via skills development and training would be a pathway toward future development within the business. Enter the Skills Hub.

Originally contacting the Skills Hub for support around cybercrime training, things have since snowballed and after working with the Hub’s independent and impartial team a raft of training is now underway.

Growth is high on the agenda for Lantoom. Trainee General Manager, Scott Bourne, said that in five years’ time they hope to take on more staff, with both new and existing staff to be fully equipped with the skills needed to carry out their roles.

“There was definitely a skills gap that needed to be filled in order for us to grow, so working with the Skills Hub has allowed us to see where we’re at and what we need to do in order to move forward,” he said.

Investing in people is a key ethos for management at Lantoom, with skills and training the vehicle to help drive their growth plan forward, as well as forming a larger part of their overall strategy.

“Part of me getting in touch was to find out more about the capabilities that you have, and the network I could build from there.

“Us coming forward and telling you what we were looking for was great. But in turn, the Skills Hub provided us with an easy avenue in which to learn more and we’re doing far more now than what I would have ever imagined,” Scott said.
