How we've helped muggi
The idea for muggi, "the world’s most versatile drinks carrier", was born on the Cornish waters off Falmouth. With a reputation of being a serial ideas man, David gave himself the task of coming up with a product to successfully make and transport around a boat, four cups of tea, after a disastrous attempt during a force 7 gale.
David was already running a successful tree house building company but moved on to concentrate on muggi full time, launching the first version of muggi in 2011 at The London Boat Show. He has since expanded his market to include motorhomes, pubs and as a mobility aid.
David moved to Cornwall just in the middle of 2020 lockdown and was keen to tap into support that was available and network with the local business community.
Growth for muggi is to look at further product development with the launch of 100% recycled or as David puts it "regenerated" plastic using ghost fishing nets from the local coastline.
“If you are developing a new product now, you should think about recyclability and the end of life of the product. Muggi are guaranteed to last at least 88 years, if you don’t give it to your dog! So, the carbon is locked in for a lifetime and you can pass it onto your grandchildren.”
You're so engrossed in your business every day; it's good to have someone like Growth Hub to come in and help
How we helped
David was put in touch with the Growth Hub by The Department of International Trade who he had a long relationship with in helping to expand sales outside of the UK and attend trade shows.
He was mainly looking for support with online selling, on his website and through an Amazon shop. He met with Connector Matt for a virtual video call where they discussed everything about muggi, how it started and product development. Matt and David discussed the plans and ambitions for 2021. David has already made connections across Cornwall and Matt signposted him to business support for finance options and marketing consultancy. Muggi is definitely a new to Cornwall business to watch in 2021!
The Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Growth Hub from May 2016 - June 2023 was part funded by the European Regional Development Fund and match funded by Cornwall Council, the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy and the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Local Enterprise Partnership. The project received £2,848,591.49 of funding from the England European Regional Development Fund as part of the European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme 2014-2020.
